VietNamNet Bridge – In Vietnam, around 5-10% of hospitalised patients get bacterial contamination because over 60% of health workers are lazy about washing their hands.

 However, the Ministry of Health said the percentage of health workers who obey rules on hand washing has increased remarkably from 10% to 38.7%.
 Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Xuyen said hygiene and anti-bacterial contamination is now a big problem at most hospitals in . The Health Ministry carried out a two-year project to improve hygiene at hospitals nationwide.
 Under this project, more than 60,000 health workers were trained how to wash their hands in the correct way and hospitals were installed with standardised basins.
 Pham Duc Muc, Vice Head of the Treatment Agency under the Health Ministry, said more time is needed to foster the hand-washing habit among health workers, especially at local hospitals.
