Childfund - The Participatory Hygiene and Sanitation Transformation (PHAST) trainings for trainers took place in Tra Linh district, Cao Bang province from 23 to 31 December 2013. The participants are local authorities at district and commune levels, village heads, commune and village health staff and Women’s and Youth Union members. Save

The PHAST approach has the objectives of improving people’s hygiene practices to reduce water born disease and to encourage the effective community management of water and sanitation services. After gaining awareness about their water, sanitation and hygiene situation through participatory activities, the communities are encouraged to develop and carry out their own plans to improve their situation.

Training health educators about sanitation communication is an integrated activity in the ChildFund’s health and water-sanitation sectors and form part of the Building Strong and Resilient Communities program. After the training courses, the trainees will apply this hygiene and sanitation approach in health themed talks or local meetings.
