On 12/8/2014, MARD/NCERWASS organized the Mid-term Review Workshop of the UNICEF-supported “Water and sanitation for children” project during 2012-2016.

The project review report and presentation showed project achievements during 2012-mid 2014, with deep analysis of challenges and suggested list of priorities for the coming years. The project implementation was assessed well in terms of meeting objectives. The project design is assessed as practically appropriate and in line with UNICEF’s competitive advantages of technical assistance for policy advocacy, capacity building, M&E, IEC, coordination. The project funding level is quite sufficient and the disbursement relative high. Participants discussed priorities of the Rural Water and Sanitation sector that need UNICEF’s continued financial and technical support, i.e. socialization, sustainability of water supply systems, IEC, school water and sanitation, gender for sustainable development and disaster risk reduction/climate change adaptation.

At the workshop, UNICEF committed to continue supporting MARD to achieve the project targets as set in the MARD-UNICEF Detailed Project Outline for the period 2012-2016. UNICEF will continue to support NRWSS NTP3, post 2015 planning and implementation and help the Government to fulfill its national and international commitments on sanitation and water for all by 2030.
