On 13/10/2019, in Hanoi, Ministry of Health in collaboration with Hanoi People's Committee and Unilever Việt Nam organized the celebration of Global Hand Washing Day - joint hand washing for Vietnam health

Participated in the celebration were Ass. Professor, Dr. Nguyễn Trường Sơn, Vice Minister of MoH; Mr. Ngô Văn Quý – Vice Chairman of Hanoi PC and representatives from line ministries, related agencies from MoH; internation organization, pupils and teachers from primary schools in Hà Nội; students from Hanoi Medical University, Public university and mass media agencies reporting news on the event.

MoH Vice Minister said at the celebration: Global hand wwashing day 15 October was initiated by the Global Partnerhip on Hand Washing and promoted by the United Nation since 2008 with an aim to raise awareness on the importance of washing hands with soap, simple and effective disease protection in everyone's hands. In Việt Nam since 2008, MoH has collaborated with line ministries, civil orgsanizations, 63 provincial people's committees and Unilever Việt Nam celebrated the Global hand Washing Day.

Vice Minister shared that washing hands with soap seems very simple but many people especially children, people living in rural areas have not done it. He stressed that according to reports in 2017 by UNICEF, there are 3 billion people in the world having not yet access to hand washing device or access it without soap and clean water; about  66% has not access to the most basic hand washing device. That percentage in the richest people group is double that of the poorest; 

About 47% of schools, equivalent to 900 million students worldwide, do not have to wash their hands with soap. 43% of health facilities lack handwashing facilities, 35% of facilities have handwashing facilities but no soap and water are available. About 15% of the world's population is disabled, 12% of the population is elderly, but many of them are having difficulty using hand washing facilities due to inappropriate design and layout. In addition, many ethnic minorities and people in remote areas still do not have adequate access to handwashing facilities. In Vietnam, the infectious diseases causing the highest rate of infection per 100,000 people are influenza, diarrhea, dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, dysentery, mumps, chicken pox. It can be seen that nearly half of the infectious diseases have the highest incidence, which are related to clean water, sanitation and especially personal hygiene behaviors including washing hands with soap.

On behalf of Ministry of Health Leaders, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son called on sectors, authorities, mass organizations, press organizations and agencies to coordinate with the health sector to focus on promoting Communication activities in many forms to raise people's awareness about the importance and benefits of hand washing with soap in disease prevention. At the same time, ensure that all people including the elderly, children, people with disabilities and ethnic minorities are mentioned in all policies, programs and activities promoting hand washing with soap. Formulate and promulgate policies, regulations, and instructions on construction and maintenance of facilities, hand washing places with soap to ensure that everyone is accessible and easy to use, suitable for each other object. together; as well as ensure that all agencies, units, factories, health facilities, schools, public places have adequate hand washing facilities, clean water, soap or detergent, Easy to use and suitable for all subjects; At the same time, conducting research on inequality in handwashing with soap in different areas from which to develop appropriate policies; as well as promoting education on hand-washing with soap in schools to create habit of hand-washing with soap for students from an early age. Mr. Deputy Minister also believed and hoped with the participation of Departments, social organizations, students and all classes of people, handwashing with soap and fish hygiene. human resources and environmental sanitation will develop sustainably, contributing to the full elimination of epidemics and protection of human health.

World Day of hand washing with soap October 15 with the theme "Washing hands with soap - Working together for the health of Vietnam", to enhance the propaganda to raise awareness of the whole society as well as of each society. People on the importance of washing hands with soap to prevent disease. This year's theme is in line with the World's theme, "Clean Hands for All," originating from the goal of not leaving anyone behind on the Sustainable Development Agenda. Inequalities in access to handwashing and enhanced handwashing programs can put individuals at risk of diseases, thereby affecting their health, education and income. This topic reminds us to consider when addressing inequalities in handwashing, addressing disparities in soap-washing habits for different regions and ethnic groups, focusing on people with disabilities, women and girls, health worker./.
